Literacy
Hosea, 4:6 states, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge….” (NKJV). According to scripture, what we don’t know can in fact hurt us. Because of this, literacy is an integral part of Kevin Swann ministries.
According to a recent report, when planning for prisons in our country, researchers study the test scores of youth in the third grade. The researchers who work on estimating future prison populations believe that there is a direct correlation between youth who have literacy challenges early in life to those who are incarcerated. Meaning, if we don’t reach our youth early and encourage them to read and develop their minds, there is a much higher chance that those same youth will make wrong choices later in life.
Kevin Swann Ministries, seeks to work with individuals and other non-profit organizations to help people of all ages, but particularly our youth, understand and value the importance of reading. Kevin Swann Ministries will encourage the following with regard to literacy:
- Encourage and create opportunities for adults to visit schools to read to children in their classrooms.
- Partner with other non-profit groups to provide books for youth.
- Provide an incentive program for youth who read on a consistent basis.
- Promote a passion for reading at an early age, which will lead to better test scores and also increases the possibility of a youth attending college.
- Establish an on-line “book club” or a “community of readers.”
What is most important to understand is that the bible is a collection of books! God primarily chose to communicate His truths to us through His written Word! If people have challenges reading, Kevin Swann Ministries believe that has an impact on a person reaching their full spiritual potential. God wants His Word to be read, understood and applied to our lives.
We are asking you to partner with us in this effort to make a difference in our youth through the promotion of literacy, not just in schools, but first in our homes. If you are interested in working with Kevin Swann Ministries in this effort, please contact Ms. Celisa Lovett, Literacy Coordinator at clovett@kevinswann.org. We are also seeking donations to help us reach our literacy goals. If you would like to bless our organization with the financial resources to make our goals a reality, please visit our “Make a Donation” link on our site.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
